Citing ongoing construction, closed down lots, and a lack of adequate shuttle equipment to keep overflow lots open, Ely Portillo wrote in the May 21st issue of the Charlotte Observer that travelers can expect massive parking headaches when flying out of Charlotte this summer, a prediction backed by the airport’s own admission:
“Officials are warning travelers to expect full parking lots, traffic backups, and longer waits for shuttle buses – more than a third of which were broken down Wednesday,” Portillo writes. “And those are just the biggest problems. Add to that more fliers, changing valet service providers, road and parking deck construction, shifting traffic patterns and a new, temporary shuttle bus route that adds 10 minutes to the trip from parking lot to terminal. Interim Aviation Director Brent Cagle said travelers should be ready for the hassles.”
While the airport shuffles resources and petitions City Council to approve more resources, travelers are paying heavily for the problems. Airport officials encourage travelers to plan for significant delays: Arrive early, and be prepared for confusion and frustration. For more on this story click here.
